Bandipora, Jun 01 (KNO): Last year a first hotspot for the Covid-19 cases in Kashmir, the Bandipora district in north Kashmir continuous to be notified as Orange zone as
the authorities has managed to control the spread of the disease throughout the district this year.
According to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the district remain notified as orange zone as only 850 cases have been detected so far while 7,547 have recovered and discharged from the hospitals.
Official data revealed that about 3792 patients were found positive in the district after February 15 this year, and around 2892 of them were recovered while the district has now only 850 active cases.
It said that the district also witnessed 30 deaths since February 15 this year while 92 patients have so far died since the outbreak due to Covid in the district.
Officials at Level-III Covid control room said that the district's top level-III Covid hospital has received at least 124 Covid positive patients so far.
“18 of these lost their lives while fighting the disease. 20 are still being treated at hospital and around 87 patients were on oxygen support have recovered now,” an official said.
They said that on the first of this month, the hospital with sufficient quantity of oxygen supply was set up by the administration for Covid-19 patients and was designated as Level-III district Covid hospital Bandipora.
They added that a much better strategy against the pandemic was adopted in the district this year considering that it had become a first hotspot in Kashmir last year.
"Considering a good health infrastructure, so far this year, only two Covid patients have been shifted to Srinagar hospital while last year a lot of patients were shifted to Srinagar hospital, " officials said.
Officials further said that early steps such as lockdowns, random testing protocols, and much more awareness campaigns through various sections of society have helped the district fight back against COVID-19.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Bandipora, Dr. Masrat Wani appealed to the people to be cautious and said the health guidelines should be properly followed.-
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr. Owais Ahmad said that they had constituted multiple teams comprising a doctor, paramedical staff, Asha workers and others who were going from village to village to treat non-Covid patients while those having symptoms were being taken to the hospital.
He said that contact tracing has been going on ever since the disease has affected the district while a team of doctors was formed in three medical blocks to go door-to-door to check patients.
"In terms of medical facilities, the Covid patients here did not face any difficulty as the two largest hospitals with much oxygen facility in the district were reserved for them," Owais said.
He said that "we have not yet fully won the battle against the pandemic and urged people to follow the Covid guidelines religiously and adopt the Covid appropriate behaviour strictly, ".
"82 percent of people over the age of 45 have been vaccinated and there are 22 contaminated zones where 100 percent testing has been done so far, " he added.
